Dangerous sexual predator arrested after failing to comply with sex offender registration in Whitfield County

According to a Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office incident report, Gary Howard Terry, 40, of 5180 Red Clay Road, Cohutta, GA, is a registered sex offender and classified as a sexually dangerous predator. According to the report, “As such, Mr. Terry is required by Georgia law O.C.G.A. 42-1-14(f) to report to the sheriff’s office six months following his birthday to update or verify his required registration information. Mr. Terry did not report during the month of March, which is six months following his birthday, as required by law, and due to this failure to report, Mr. Terry is in violation of O.C.G.A. 42-1-14(f). There is no specification in the law that this violation is a felony; therefore, a misdemeanor warrant will be sought for his arrest. On April 4th, 2022, warrants were issued for his arrest, and on April 14th, 2022, Terry was booked into the Whitfield County Jail, charged with a dangerous predator, failing to register as a sex offender. According to records, on December 17th, 2001, Terry was convicted of aggravated sexual assault.
