Driver cited for littering after tossing paper containing marijuana out window during traffic stop in Whitfield County

According to a Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office incident report, on February 23rd, 2021, at around 11:23 PM, Sgt. Pierce was patrolling the area of Antioch Road when he observed a blue Jeep Wrangler in front of him with a driver-side brake light not working. The deputy conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle at the intersection of Antioch and Farner. As the vehicle was pulling over, the deputy noticed that a white wadded piece of paper came flying out from the passenger side window. The deputy spoke with the driver about his brake light. The Dalton man stated that he thought that he had fixed it already. The deputy asked for his license and walked back to his patrol vehicle. On the way back stopped and picked up the paper that was thrown out the window. The deputy noticed that the paper had marijuana inside of it. The deputy then walked back up to the driver and spoke with him about the incident. He stated that he didn’t want to get caught with it. The deputy issued the driver and warning for the brake light and a citation for Littering.
