Drug deal at Trion hotel interrupted by agents leading to chase of LaFayette felon

According to Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit Drug Task Force Commander and Detectives on Wednesday, December 30th, 2020, Drug Task Force Commander Caine Railey, Trion and Summerville Police Department Detectives Dexter Blackmon and Ty Hutchins observed a drug deal between a male and female at the Express Inn, off Highway 27 in Trion. After observing the transaction, agents tried to block in the suspects involved. The female quickly abandoned her vehicle, fled on foot, escaping while agents were boxing in the male suspect, later identified as Bobby Allen Ball, 32, of LaFayette, with their vehicles. Agent Blackmon stepped out of his patrol vehicle and began giving verbal commands to Ball. Railey said that Ball appeared like he was going to comply before hopping in his red Ford Mustang and hitting the gas, nearly running over Agent Blackmon. A high-speed chase then began with Ball driving recklessly on Tavern Lane and then turning onto Simmons Street. The pursuit went down Pine Street and onto Back Penn Road. According to a report, agents reported shots were fired and saw Ball throw a Hi-Point 9mm pistol, along with a bag of methamphetamine and diazepam pills from the window. Ball then turned onto Memorial Drive and abandoned the vehicle near Fields Walk Trailer Park. Ball fled on foot into the nearby woods. K-9 units were called in and found Ball in nearby woods after an hour-long search in the area. The gun and drugs Ball threw out the window on Back Penn Road were recovered by deputies. Agents also found more methamphetamine and a .25 caliber handgun inside the mustang. Ball was arrested and booked into the Chattooga County Jail charged with abandonment of dangerous drugs, aggravated assault on a police officer, failure to appear in court, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, possession of methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute and possession of diazepam. Ball remains in the Chattooga County Jail with his bond denied.
