Drunk driver arrested after leaving party and crashing into parked truck in Dalton

According to a Dalton Police Department incident report, On July 23rd, 2022, at 2:55 AM, Officer Miller responded to a single-vehicle crash that was being reported by On Star at Hamilton Street and Waterworks Street. Officer Miller arrived and observed a black 2018 GMC Sierra that had collided with a parked pickup truck and a utility storage container. Officer McBrayer then Mae contact with the driver of the vehicle, later identified as Ezau Resendez-Munoz, 27, of Dalton. Officer Miller repeated, “[I] observed that the stop sign had been run over and that there were skid marks where the driver had left the roadway at East Waterworks Street. [I] immediately noticed the smell of alcoholic beverage coming from his person. [I] observed his eyes were glossy and bloodshot, and his speech was slurred. [I] then asked Ezau if he could stand, and he replied yes. Ezau struggled to stand unassisted, swaying back and forth. [I] asked him where he was headed when the accident happened, and Ezau stated he was headed home. When asked where he had come from, Ezau stated he just came from a party but didn’t know where the party was located at.” When asked Ezau stated he had only had seven beers before driving. It was learned during the investigation that Ezau was not wearing his seat belt during the crash and had no valid insurance. Officer located multiple open containers of alcohol inside his vehicle. One was in the cup holder. During field sobriety testing, Officer Ridley observed Ezau show several signs of impairment. Ezau was placed under arrest for DUI and transported to the Whitfield County Jail, where he showed a BAC of .228 on the state test. Ezau was charged with DUI, failure to maintain lane, open container, no seat belt, and no insurance.
