East Point man arrested for reckless driving after being stopped for going 120 mph on I-75 in Whitfield County

According to a Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office incident report, On June 26th, 2022, around 2:03 AM, Deputy Hill, and Deputy Spivey were checking vehicle speeds on Interstate 75 NB between mile markers 323 and 324. According to the report, “Deputy Spivey checked the speed of a vehicle traveling at 120 miles per hour (mph) in a 70 mph zone. The vehicle was identified as a black 2022 Nissan Altama. As soon as the vehicle passed Deputy Hill’s patrol vehicle, it slowed down and pulled to the left shoulder of the highway before Deputy Hill activated the emergency lights of his patrol vehicle.” The deputy made contact with the driver, identified as Ernest Melvin Soden, 22, of East Point, GA, and advised Ernest why he was stopped. The deputy asked if Ernest if he had any legal reason why he was exceeding the speed limit. According to the report, “Ernest stated that he didn’t have any reason why he was speeding but that he was on his way to visit a friend in Tennessee that he had not seen in a very long time.” Ernest was placed under arrest for reckless driving and transported to the Whitfield County Jail. Deputy located a loaded Glock handgun and a marijuana grinder containing marijuana in the center console. Ernest was booked into jail, and charged with reckless driving and speeding.
