Elderly wrong-way driver killed in head-on serious crash on Hwy 27 in Floyd County Tuesday evening

UPDATE: The driver of the PT Cruiser has been identified by family as Annie Vivian Millican, 87, of Trion. Floyd County Coroner Gene Proctor said she was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to Floyd County Police Department Sgt. Chris Fincher, On Tuesday at 5:35 p.m., authorities were alerted to a wrong-way driver on U.S. 27. According to Sgt. Fincher, as the elderly driver in her 80’s was headed northbound in the southbound lanes north of Highway 156, she struck Chattooga County Deputy Marvin Armstrong’s patrol vehicle. Deputy Armstrong and his two passengers escaped injury. The wrong way driver continued the wrong way but then slowed, possibly coming to a stop. A southbound Ford Flex driven by Crystal Morris of LaFayette slammed into the wrong-way vehicle. She was apparently unable to see the vehicle until it was too late. Morris was taken by EMS to Atrium Health Floyd with serious injuries. The wrong way driver died from her injuries. Her name was being held pending notification of her family
