On Thursday, September 16th, 2021, at around 12:20 AM, Walker County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Doyle attempted to stop a vehicle traveling at an extremely high rate of speed, running red lights, and driving on the wrong side of the roadway southbound on LaFayette Road (Hwy 27) in Rossville. The pursuit went through the Chickamauga Battlefield at speeds over 100 mph in the 30 mph zone. The high-speed pursuit entered into the parking lot at the Food Lion shopping center, continued hitting several other statues before then slamming into the Nail & Spa and H&R Block located at 13311 North Highway 27 in Chickamauga, causing damage of upwards of $10,000. The driver was identified as Demarcus Moore, 19, and the passenger was identified as Javonte Gardner, 18, both of Chattanooga, TN. The tag on the vehicle was ran and returned as being a 2017 Nissan Versa confirmed stolen out of Chattanooga. A loaded firearm also confirmed stolen was located in the vehicle. Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson said, “They were being totally selfish, disregarding innocent lives. If someone had been traveling northbound, they could have easily hit them head-on.” “The suspects are convicted felons,” said Sheriff Wilson. Marijuana was also found on one of the suspects. They were booked into the Walker County Jail, charged with several felonies.
