According to a Georgia State Patrol crash report, on Tuesday, July 13th, 2021, a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe being driven by Margarita Maria Welch, 60, of Fort McCoy, Florida, and a 2018 Kia Sorento being driven by Tyler Jackson, 28, of Dalton, were traveling northbound on I-75 mile marker 329 negotiating a curve to the left. The Hyundai was traveling in the center lane. The Kia was traveling in the left lane. The Hyundai attempted to make an improper lane change to the left. The Hyundai struck the Kia on the right side with its left side. Margarita then overcorrected to the right. The Hyundai then traveled off the east shoulder of the roadway and struck a tree with its front. The Hyundai then overturned, coming to a final uncontrolled rest on its left side facing north. Margarita was seriously injured in the crash and had to be extricated by the City of Dalton and Whitfield County Fire Departments. She was transported to Hamilton Medical Center by Hamilton EMS. A passenger in the Hyundai, Richard Welch, 62, of Fort McCoy, Florida, suffered minor injuries and was transported by EMS to Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton. Jackson was uninjured in the crash. Margarita was given a warning by GSP.
