Florida man arrested for DUI drugs after crashing on I-75 in Gordon County

According to a Georgia State Patrol incident report, On July 20th, 2022, at 6:10 AM, Trooper Mefford responded to a single-vehicle crash on I-75 at mile marker 311. The driver, identified as Raul Alexandro Hernandez,45, of Lakeland, Florida, advised he had been up since 6:00 AM the previous morning and left traveling towards Wisconsin around 9:00 PM the night prior. The driver also said that he did not know what had happened. He said that the driver stated that he may have fallen asleep and that caused him to run off the road. Trooper Mefford reported, “[I] noticed that the whole time [I] was talking to Mr. Hernandez he could not stay still. He was constantly stepping back and forth. [I] also noticed that he was very sweaty, and his eyes were very red in the corners. It was still early in the morning, so it was not hot outside. [I] asked him if he had taken any medication. He said no. [I] asked if he consumed any other drugs or alcohol. He stated no.” During Standard Field Sobriety (SFST) Tests, Hernandez showed several signs of impairment and was placed under arrest for DUI. Hernandez then refused the blood test. According to the report, “He then dropped to the ground stating that he was going to pass out.” Trooper and deputies then located marijuana and meth inside the vehicle. Hernandez stated that they were not his drugs and that someone else put them in his car. Hernandez was transported to the Gordon County Jail, charged with driving on roadways laned for traffic, DUI, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, possession and use of drug-related objects, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of marijuana.
