Floyd County Police Officer receives life saver award after saving crash victim

On September 8, 2021 Officer Tetsworth responded to a vehicle crash on Old Rockmart Road. The car was overturned and the driver was trapped inside. Upon further investigation the officer found that the driver was unconscious and bleeding from the head. Tetsworth crawled inside the vehicle to check the driver’s condition and observed a weak pulse and faint breathing. Knowing that seconds were important for the life of the driver, Tetsworth crawled inside the car, cut the seat belt and extracted the driver. The officer later reported that because of the driver’s seated position in the wreckage, it was very difficult for the driver to breath. After the driver was out Tetsworth continued to provide medical assistance and when EMS arrived the driver’s life signs had greatly improved. The driver is still in the hospital recovering from injuries. Officer Tetsworth put the safety of the driver above his own with his life saving actions reported Sgt. Donald Holbrook. In his commendation of Tetsworth, Sgt. Holbrook wrote that the officer “…went above and beyond the call of duty, bringing credit upon himself and the Floyd County Police Department.
