Fort Oglethorpe man arrested for DUI after traffic stop for equipment violation in Dalton

According to a Dalton Police Department incident report, On May 19th, 2022, at 9:15 PM, Officer Selby heard Lt. Eaton request another unit on a traffic stop. Officer Selby reported, “When Eric Jason Quarles, 41, Fort Oglethorpe, stood near me [I] detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from his person. [I] asked Eric how much he had to drink, and he said he had nothing to drink at all. [I] then observed that Eric’s eyes were bloodshot. With the odor of alcohol and bloodshot eyes, [I] decided that Eric may be under the influence of alcohol.” During standardized field sobriety tests, Eric showed several signs of impairment and showed a BAC of .155 on a PBT. Lt Eaton also located two open containers inside the vehicle. Eric was placed under arrest for DUI and agreed to the state test. Eric was then transported to the Whitfield County Jail, where he showed a BAC of .170 on the state test. Eric was charged with DUI (alcohol .08 grams or more), tire requirements, headlight burned out, tail light burned out, and open container.
