According to a Georgia State Patrol crash report, on Saturday, September 4th, 2021, at around 9:14 PM, a 2016 Ford Taurus being driven by Deborah Simmons-kendera, 58 of Lookout Mountain, GA, was traveling eastbound on GA-2 in the turn lane. A 2012 Hyundai Sonata being driven by a 15-year-old from Flintstone was traveling west on GA-2 in the right lane. According to the report, Deborah stated that she was taking a coworker home. She stated that she was told that she needed to turn left. Deborah stated that she had a green ball light but no green arrow. Deborah then stated that she attempted turning left, not seeing the Hyundai until just prior to impact. The teenager stated that he had a green ball light and was traveling through the intersection when the Ford turned left into his path. The Ford’s right front side then struck the Hyundai in the front. The Hyundai rotated clockwise, coming to rest facing north on GA-2. The Ford rotated counter-clockwise, traveling off the roadway onto the shoulder, coming to rest facing west. The teenager and passenger Douglas Amor, 50, of Flintstone, were both injured in the crash. Douglas was transported by CHI EMS to Erlanger. Deborah and her passenger were injured but were not transported. Deborah was issued a citation from the investigating trooper for failure to yield while turning left.
