Gordon County deputy finds Tennessee fugitive and stolen truck while investigating suspicious activity

According to a Gordon County Sheriff’s Office incident report, on Tuesday, July 13th, 2021, at approximately hours 11:27 PM,, Deputy J.T. Davis was patrolling the area of Highway 41 North in Calhoun. According to the report, “While doing so, Deputy Davis observed a white Chevrolet 2500 parked behind the Shell Gas Station (1441 US 41 N). A male subject later identified as Lazarus Samuell Hibbett, 26, of Portland, Tennessee, was crouched down in front of the listed white Chevrolet truck. Mr. Hibbett removed a license plate from the front of the vehicle and then walked to a trash can nearby and threw the license plate inside.” The deputy approached Hibbett, who was now standing in the open driver’s side door of the truck. The deputy asked Hibbett what he was doing behind the gas station and why he removed the license plate from the vehicle. According to the report, “As Mr. Hibbett spoke, Deputy Davis began smelling the odor of alcoholic beverage coming from Mr. Hibbett’s breath and person. Mr. Hibbett stated he was removing a “bumper sticker” from the front the truck and the truck belonged to his brother. During Deputy Davis’s questioning, Mr. Hibbett acted evasive and nervous. He was visibly sweating and would not make direct eye contact with Deputy Davis.” The deputy asked what his name was, and Hibbett paused for a moment and looked away from the deputy, and responded, “Jason”. Due to Hibbetts’s nervous behavior and intoxicated condition, the deputy detained him to investigate further. Deputy J.R. Anderson arrived on the scene to assist. Hibbett was asked for his full name and date of birth. According to the report, He provided the false name of “Jason Flora” with the date of birth “03/18/1995. The deputy moved to the rear of the Chevrolet truck and provided the license plate displayed on the truck to Gordon E911. Dispatch advised the vehicle was listed in NCIC as stolen. The VIN displayed on the truck matched the VIN, which was attached to the tag number in NCIC. The truck was confirmed as stolen through the reporting agency, Robertson County Sheriff’s Office in Tennessee. Dispatch also advised they were never able to get the name “Jason Flora” with a date of birth of “3/18/1995” to return through GCIC. The deputy located a small clear plastic bag containing suspected marijuana inside a cigarette pack which was in the center console. According to the report, the deputy spoke with Deputy Sities by phone. The deputy stated Hibbett was the original suspect in the vehicle theft. Deputies were able to confirm Hibbett’s real identity. Mr. Hibbett showed a felony warrant through NCIC through the Robertson County Sheriff’s Office. The warrant was confirmed with the Robertson County Sheriff’s Office. Hibbett was booked into the Gordon County Jail, charged with driving while license suspended or revoked, fugitive from justice, giving false name or address to law enforcement officer, marijuana – possess less than oz, obstruction or hindering law enforcement officers, theft by bringing stolen property into the state, and theft by receiving stolen property.
