Gordon County Sheriff’s Office K9 helps track down wanted felon after brief pursuit ends in crash

According to a Gordon County Sheriff’s Office incident report, on November 4th, 2021, at approximately 8:17 PM, Sgt. Powell observed a gold Jeep Grand Cherokee being driven by Justin Blake McCoy, 34, of Calhoun, traveling on Morrow Road toward Highway 53. According to the report, “Sgt. Powell had knowledge that Mr. McCoy had an outstanding felony warrant, and the passenger of the vehicle, Haley Williams has an outstanding protection order against Mr. McCoy. As the vehicle approached Hwy 53, Sgt. Powell activated his blue lights and audible siren. The vehicle turned east onto highway 53, then turned south onto Union Grove Church Road and accelerated at a high rate of speed while traveling on the wrong side of the road.” Sgt. Powell pursued the vehicle on Union Grove Church Road. The vehicle then lost control and left the road at 846 Union Grove Church Road. The vehicle traveled approximately 100 yards off the road and struck a tree. McCoy fled on foot from the crash and could not be immediately located. According to the report, “K9 Lolli was deployed and tracked where Mr. McCoy was located hiding along a creek bank. Mr. McCoy was taken into custody and returned to the vehicle.” EMS was called to check both McCoy and Williams. According to the report, “Both were released from custody and transported to Advent Health Gordon by EMS. Sgt. Powell advised Mr. McCoy that he already had an outstanding warrant and additional warrants would be taken for the incident that had just occurred.” Once Mr. McCoy was released from the hospital, he was taken into custody and transported to the Gordon County Jail, where he was charged with aggravated stalking (FVA), driving on the wrong side of the road, failure to maintain lane, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, felony probation violation, and reckless driving. According to arrest records, McCoy has a lengthy and violent criminal history. According to a 2015 press release, after being released from prison just three weeks, McCoy was arrested after violently beating a man, he was charged with aggravated assault.
