GSP trooper ends 100 mph Walker County pursuit of wanted felon with successful PIT maneuver

According to a Walker County Sheriff’s Office incident report, on July 14th, 2021, at around 10:18 PM, while Deputy Haven attempted to stop a 2007 Ford Escape. The driver, identified as Jeremy Dee Simmons, 39, of LaFayette, was known to have a valid warrant for felony escape. Simmons ran the red light at Highway 27 Bypass and North Main Street and then the red light at West Highway 136. Deputy Fouts then joined secondary in pursuit. Deputy Fouts reported, “[I] traveled northbound reaching speeds of 130, and the pursuit was pulling away from me. [I] finally caught up to the pursuit and was advised to take primary. When [I] took primary, we traveled northbound from Center Point Road with speeds over 100 mph in a 55 mph zone. Simmons then changed lanes from the right lane to the left lane without using his turn signal.” As the pursuit continued, north on Highway 27 towards Guy Williams Road, speeds were 95 mph in a 55 mph zone. Simmons continued north, driving recklessly towards Highway 95, quickly changing lanes without signaling and driving in the center turn lane at speeds of 85 mph in the 45 mph zone. According to the report, He then got back into the left-hand lane and increased speeds to 90 mph. After topping Rock, Spring Hill speeds increased to over 100 mph as they passed East Turnipseed Road. Georgia State Patrol, who had been requested since the start of the pursuit, joined the pursuit near Twin Cedars Road. As the pursuit neared the city limits of Chickamauga, Trooper Thomas took over the primary position and utilized a successful PIT maneuver Just south of the Walker County line on Highway 27. Sgt Agredano, Deputy haven, and Deputy Fouts assayed with taking Simons into custody. Sgt Agredano advised that he locked Simmons on radar, going 98mph near East Turnipseed Road during the purist. Simmons was booked into the Walker County Jail, charged with felony escape (warrant), felony fleeing eluding (x2), reckless driving (x2), traffic control device(x2), improper use of central lane, seat belt violation (x2), speeding, turn signal (x3), and headlight requirements.
