GSP trooper uses PIT maneuver to end high-speed pursuit with DUI driver on I-75 in Whitfield County

According to a Georgia State Patrol crash report and Whitfield County Jail reports, on Friday, February 19th, 2021, at around 11:45 PM, Georgia State Patrol Trooper Cochran attempted to stop a 2008 Toyota Yaris near exit 312 in Gordon County. The driver, identified as Jonathan Bloodworth, 38, of Decatur, GA field to stop initiating a high-speed pursuit with the trooper. Speeds reached over 100 mph as the pursuit continued northbound into Whitfield County. According to the crash report, Bloodworth was traveling north on I-75 near mile marker 327 in the middle lane at a high rate of speed while fleeing from a marked Georgia State Patrol car with blue lights and siren activated. The trooper was traveling in the right lane in pursuit of the Toyota. The trooper performed a PIT maneuver to terminate the pursuit. The patrol vehicle struck the Toyota in the right rear with the left front of the patrol vehicle. The area of impact was in the middle lane of I-75 northbound. The Toyota was forced out of control and eventually went off the right shoulder of the roadway and came to a final uncontrolled rest in a ditch facing northwest. Bloodworth was booked into the Whitfield County Jail charged by the Georgia State Patrol with DUI, open container violation, operating a motor vehicle without a proper tag/decal, misdemeanor willful obstruction of law officers, speeding, driving without insurance, driving with a suspended or revoked license, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane, felony fleeing/attempting to elude a police officer and improper lane change or usage. Passenger Romalra Jeklene Robinson, 45, of Wilmington, Delaware, was charged with container violation and misdemeanor willful obstruction of law officers.
