According to a Floyd County Police Department incident report, on February 3rd, 2021, at around 7:17 PM, Officer Wright responded to a crash on Turner Bend Road at GA 1 Loop. When the officer arrived, he observed a blue vehicle in the ditch. When the officer made contact with the driver identified as Karen Tessener, 52, of Lindale, he advised her speech was slurred, and she appeared to be very drowsy. Karen stated she ran off the road because it is dark and she is not familiar with the roads. This is the only explanation she gave for leaving the roadway. She stated she had got into an argument with her boyfriend on Marion Dairy Road. Officer Wright reported, “While she was still in the vehicle, her motor skills were poor, and she could not find her wallet or ID. Karen went back and forth from looking for her ID to filling up a basket with items. It took several minutes of me asking Karen to exit the vehicle before she finally complied. Once on her feet, she was stumbling and almost fell down.” Karen stated she had one glass of wine about five prior when asked. Karen declined to participate in the field sobriety test. Officer Wright reported, “With Karen’s manner of driving, slurred speech, inability to walk without falling down, her admittance (and odor) to consuming alcohol in consuming alcohol in a combination of her prescription medications, [I] determined that Karen had operated a motor vehicle in a state that was less safe.” Karen was read implied consent for blood, to which she refused. Karen was transported to the Floyd County Jail, charged with DUI and failing to maintain lane. According to arrest reports, Karen was just arrested last November for DUI and reckless driving.
