Lindale woman charged with endangering a child by DUI after causing crash in Floyd County

According to a Floyd County Police Department incident report, on April 30th, 2021 , Officer Nelson and Doan responded to a vehicle crash on GA-1 (Hwy 27) at Miller Mountain Road. Officers arrived and made contact with the driver of the at-fault vehicle Brittney Sandman, 34, of Lindale. Sandman stated that her dog jumped into her lap, causing her to leave her lane of travel and strike the vehicle in the left-hand lane. Officer Nelson reported, “[I] could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Mrs. Sandman’s person, her eyes were watery and bloodshot, and she was slurring speech.” Officer Doan asked Sandman if she had consumed any alcoholic beverages that day, and she stated yes, one twelve-ounce Corona (beer). Sandman also had four juvenile children in the vehicle with her, all between their ages of 14 to one year old. Sandman agreed to perform roadside evaluations and showed several clues of impairment. Sandman was then placed under arrest for suspicion of DUI driving under the influence of alcohol. Officer Doan then read Sandman Georgia’s Implied Consent notice, and she refused to submit it to the state tests. Officer Doan observed an open white claw container within the passenger compartment of the vehicle. Sandman was transported to the Floyd County Jail charged with failure to maintain lane, endangering a child by DUI x4, and DUI- driving under the influence of alcohol.
