Lookout Mountain Georgia Mayor arrested again for DUI after traffic stop Tuesday night

Georgia State Patrol said the Lookout Mountain, Tn., Police Department tried to stop a vehicle Tuesday night for failure to maintain lane and a headlight violation, but Lookout Mountain, Ga., Mayor David Bennett kept driving into Georgia. Lookout Mountain, Ga., officer arrived and recognized the driver was the mayor and “smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage,” according to the Georgia State Patrol. A Georgia State Patrolman was then called in to take over the traffic stop. After failing field sobriety tests, Bennett was placed under arrest for DUI and booked into the Walker County Jail. According arrest reports David Bennett has lengthy arrest record for DUI and was arrested in Cherokee County, Alabama last month for tampering with evidence and DUI. 

City Manager Kenny Lee issued this statement, “We are aware of the charges. Mayor Bennett has advised that he was not intoxicated and offered to take a breathalyzer. He is looking forward to his day in court to prove his innocence and he feels confident he will be exonerated.”
