Man indicted on murder charges in relation to deadly March road rage shooting in Walker County

A Walker County Grand Jury has indicted a Chickamauga man in connection with a deadly road rage incident last March in the parking lot of Dollar General at 15 Garretts Chapel Road. Jeremy Dewayne McCrary, 44, of Chickamauga is being charged with malice murder, felony murder, voluntary manslaughter (felony), aggravated assault (felony) and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. McCary was arrested at his home Wednesday and booked into the Walker County Jail.

In March a press release stated that Walker County detectives would not be filing charges at the time against the man who fired the shot in the deadly “aggressive driving” incident. Detectives met and consulted with District Attorney Chris Arnt the next morning. Upon the recommendation of DA Arnt, detectives would complete the investigation and submit the findings to the District Attorney’s office. Detectives determined that the aggressive driving encounter between the motorcycles and the SUV began east of Chickamauga on Lee Clarkson Road and continued onto Highway 341, ending at the Dollar General Store parking lot where the shooting occurred. The man killed was identified as Danny Douglas Claire, age 53, of Chickamauga. The sheriff stated there is no evidence the men knew each other.
