Menlo man charged with DUI after reversing into vehicle on Martin Street in Summerville

A Menlo man driving in reverse was arrested for DUI last Thursday night after crashing into another vehicle, according to Summerville Police reports. Christopher L Wooden, 37, was arrested for DUI, improper backing, driving while licenses suspended and driving on the wrong side of the road. Wooden was driving his green 2013 Ford Escape in reverse for a short distance when he struck Devin Radford s beige 2011 Hyundai Elantra on Martin Street. Radford had a two-year-old and a 5-year-old in the car along with 26-year-old Analisha Radford. “[Radford] reported that he was traveling west on Martin Street and could see [Wooden] at a distance and as he traveled closer to the vehicle he noticed that [Wooden] was traveling backwards and then struck his vehicle causing major damage to his vehicle,” Officer Ricky Van Pelt reported. Wooden claims he heard someone shouting and decided to back his car up the road. That’s when he struck Radford’s vehicle. “[Wooden] reported that he had a medical procedure this AM and that he probably shouldn’t have been driving,” the report states. “The driver…was very drowsy and had slurred speech and couldn’t conduct a conversation without falling asleep.”
