Motorcyclist killed in high-speed crash on GA-201 after fleeing from Whitfield County deputy Wednesday night

According to the Georgia State Patrol, “These are the preliminary investigative findings, and this crash is still under investigation. On February 16, 2022, at 10:07 p.m., a Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a blue 2008 Suzuki GSX motorcycle on GA 3 near Willowdale Road. The motorcycle failed to yield and accelerated at a high rate of speed. The deputy did not pursue the motorcycle. The motorcycle continued to drive at a high rate of speed. While attempting to search the area for the motorcycle, a Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office deputy struck a tire, appearing to belong to a motorcycle, laying in the roadway on GA 201. The deputy then observed the motorcycle and rider off the roadway. The preliminary crash investigation shows the motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed, exited the roadway to the right while negotiating a curve, and struck a telephone pole. The driver,  Mr. Isaias Isaac Martinez, 32 years old, suffered fatal injuries.”
