According to a Georgia State Patrol crash report, On October 2nd, 2022, a 2004 Ford Expedition being driven by Patrick Faulk, 35, of LaFayette, was traveling south on GA 1 in the left southbound lane. A 2006 Honda Civic, being driven by Landon Swisher, 19, of Chickamauga, was traveling west across GA 1 from Wilder Road, attempting to continue traveling west on Wilder Road. According to the crash report, “Faulk was traveling too fast for the busy traffic conditions on GA 1. The Honda failed to yield when attempting to cross the southbound lanes of GA 1, causing him to strike the passenger side front of the Expedition with the front of the Honda. The area of impact was located in the left southbound lane of GA 1 at the intersection with Wilder Road. Master Trooper Thomas advised that he was patrolling northbound on GA 1 in the vicinity of milepost 24 immediately prior to the crash. Master Trooper Thomas observed the Ford Expedition traveling 75 MPH in the posted 55 MPH zone southbound on GA 1 and was attempting to find a suitable place to turn around and initiate a traffic stop with the Expedition immediately prior to the crash. After impact, due to Faulk’s excessive speed, the Expedition slid to an uncontrolled rest approximately 180 feet south of the area of impact. Trooper Sarrell gave both drivers warnings related to the crash. Faulk was issued a citation for speeding.
