According to a Gordon County Sheriff’s Office incident report, on July 24th, 2021, at around 4:00 PM Deputy Pullen of the Gordon County Sheriffs Office Community Crime Prevention Unit responded to assist Sgt Anderson on a traffic stop. Sgt Anderson was I-75 northbound at the 317 on ramp with a car he had stopped for a speeding violation. According to the report, Sgt Anderson stopped a blue BMW SUV for running 90mph in a 70mph on I-75 northbound as Deputy Pullen approached Sgt. Anderson marked patrol unit, Sgt. Anderson stated he smelled the strong odor of marijuana coming from the suspect’s car. Deputy Pullen and Sgt Anderson walked up to the blue BMW. Deputy Pullen asked the driver, identified as Emmett Dejuan Harvell, 31, of Norcross, GA, for his keys and stated that there was a strong odor of marijuana coming from the car. According to the report, “Deputy Pullen told the Harvell his car was going to be searched. Harvell told Deputy Pullen he was not getting his keys, so Deputy Pullen placed Harvell under arrest for obstruction. Deputy Pullen, with the help of Deputy Massingill, searched the car. Inside the car, a Black Taurus 9mm handgun was locked up in the glove box. On the passenger floorboard was marijuana. Also, there were four small bottles of alcohol with three empty and one still cold and full.” Both the Driver Emmett Dejuan Harvell and the passenger Christopher Lee Key were placed under arrest and later taken to the Gordon County Jail. Harvell was charged with obstruction of officers, possession of a firearm by a felon, and speeding. Key was charged with open container and possession of marijuana.
