According to a Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office incident report, on November 23rd, 2021, at around 8:09 PM, Deputy Warren was observing traffic on South Bypass near Mansfield Road. According to the report, “Deputy Warren spotted a vehicle (2014 Acura) traveling toward Connector 3 at a high rate of speed passing vehicles. Deputy Warren checked it with the DragonEye speed detection laser at 98 mph in a 55 mph zone.” The deputy conducted a traffic stop near the South Dixie intersection. Deputy Warren spoke with the driver identified as Billy Joe Smith, 30, of Resaca. Mr. Smith advised he was trying to return his sister’s car and admitted to speeding. According to the report, “Deputy Warren could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from the vehicle.” During standardized field sobriety tests, Deputy Warren did not observe any clues. Deputy Warren checked the female passenger, Sabrina Jones, 29, of Conyers, GA, and she returned with a possible arrest warrant from Rome, GA, for probation violation. The Whitfield County 911 center confirmed the warrant was valid, and Rome wished to place a hold on her. Deputy Warren transported both Smith and Jones to the Whitfield County Jail.
