According to a Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office incident report, in June of 2020 a deputy was dispatched to speak with a victim over the phone in reference to a vehicle theft. The victim stated he hired Justin Stewart, 24, of Resaca, a few weeks ago to work for him at Imperial Landscaping. The victim stated he got a call from a family friend, who said one of his company trucks was involved in a wreck at Carter’s Lake. The trooper working the crash stated Stewart had been drinking while driving and was being placed under arrest for DUI. Stewart was charged by the Georgia State Patrol with DUI, open container violation, and improper lane change/failure to maintain lane. The victim was advised that he would have to contact Whitfield County to make a report regarding the theft of the truck since it occurred in their County. The victim stated to the deputy the truck was at his shop on 1146 Cavender Road because they were working on it earlier this date. The victim stated he left the keys in the truck and left the gate to the shop unlocked. The victim stated the truck was a Silver 1993 Isuzu MPR, and he estimated the price of the truck to be approximately $3,000. On March 22nd, 2021, Stewart was booked into the Whitfield County Jail charged with felony theft by taking/larceny/theft of an automobile.
