Resaca man struck and killed by train while walking home from work in Dalton

According to a Dalton Police Department incident report and 911 CAD, on Friday, November 11th, 2022, at 11:55 PM, a call came in from CSX of a male subject walking on the tracks that had been struck and killed in the area of 1887 Willowdale Road and the North Dalton Bypass. According to the Dalton Police Department report, The male was identified as Stephen Randall Bagget, 40, of Resaca, Georgia, by his GA ID on his person. According to the report, Stephen was wearing a Waffle House uniform, and Officer Allen was informed that he had just left work. According to the report, The train conductor who witnessed the incident advised Officer Allen stated that the train was traveling east, and he observed two people in the middle of the tracks. He stated that he began to blow the train’s horn. He stated that one subject stood up and left the tracks to the left side. Stephen did not move and was struck by the train. On November 15th, 2022, Officer Allen was able to view the video from the train. Officer Allen observed exactly what the train conducted had described. Officer Allen also viewed video from 1920 Environs Lane. Officer Allen reported, “In this video, [I] observed Stephen walking east on the train tracks. He was in the middle of the tracks as he began to pass the business. He then stopped at the business and walked to the back door. While standing at the back door, [I] noticed that Stephen had earphones in his ears. He stands at the back door for a little while and then leaves, walking east in the middle of the tracks. After Stephen leaves, it is about two more minutes before the train comes by. From my investigation, [I] conclude that Stephen was trespassing on the CSX railroad. According to the 911 CAD, a CSX Agent responded to the scene as well to investigate.
