Resaca teen arrested for DUI after being stopped for tail light violation in Gordon County

According to a Gordon County Sheriff’s Office incident report, On September 16th, 2022, at 12:59 AM, Sergeant Jones was stationary on Battlefield Parkway near Baker Street when he observed a 2004 white Honda Accord with a defective passenger side tail light. According to the report, “As Sergeant Jones approached the vehicle, it braked and made an abrupt left turn onto Defoor Drive. The vehicle drove over a large rock at a construction area and was forced to stop.” Sergeant Jones initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, later identified as Madison Michelle Hanson, 19, of Resaca. Hanson was holding her driver’s license out of the driver’s window when the deputy approached. According to the report, “Sergeant Jones met Ms. Hanson at the driver’s window, and before he could identify himself, she handed Sergeant Jones a Class D driver’s license and said “Here you go. I’m high. That’s all I’m gonna explain to you”. Sergeant Jones asked what she was high on, and she said “weed”, and said she had smoked twenty minutes prior to the traffic stop.” Hanson advised there was marijuana in a backpack inside the vehicle. During field sobriety tests, Hanson showed several signs of marijuana impairment. Hanson was placed under arrest for DUI and agreed to the state test. Hanson was booked into the Gordon County Jail and charged with improper taillights, DUI drugs, improper class of license, and possession of marijuana.
