Resaca woman charged with DUI after Whitfield County deputy checks on broken down vehicle on I-75

According to a Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office incident report, On October 23rd, 2022, at 12:48 PM, Deputy Sharpe was traveling northbound on I-75 near mile marker 327. Deputy Sharpe observed a white 2018 Ford Explorer with Georgia on the right shoulder of I-75 right before the 328-exit ramp. The vehicle had its hazard lights on. Deputy Sharpe advised Whitfield County that he was getting out with a broken-down vehicle.  According to the report, “As Deputy Sharpe was walking up to the vehicle, Morgan Joan Brooks, 36, of Resaca got into the front passenger seat. Nathaniel Andrew Cagle, 35, of Cartersville, was in the back seat behind the passenger seat. It appeared that they were having sexual intercourse. Deputy Sharpe observed the front driver seat to moved well up, indicating that Ms. Brooks was likely the driver of the vehicle. Deputy Sharpe could smell a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from both Ms. Brooks and Mr. Cagle.”  Brooks was asked if she had anything to drink and advised she only had two beers before driving. During field sobriety tests, Brooks showed several signs of impairment and was placed under arrest for DUI. Brooks agreed to the state test and was transported to the Whitfield County Jail, where she showed a .126 on the state test. Brooks was charged with DUI driving under the influence of alcohol.
