According to a Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office, on June 5th, 2021, at around 12: 39 AM, Deputy R. Townsend was sitting stationary on Interstate 75 at the 338-mile marker. According to the report, “Deputy Townsend observed a vehicle traveling faster than the surrounding vehicles and passing several other vehicles at an extremely high rate of speed for the congested interstate. Deputy Townsend checked the vehicle’s speed using his dragon eye laser (S/N: 14482) at 118mph in a Posted 70mph zone. Deputy Townsend activated his emergency lights and siren as the vehicle passed in order to attempt to have the vehicle slow down and safely come to a stop. Deputy Townsend finally caught up to the vehicle, a 2017 Volkswagen GTI around the 337mm. The vehicle began slowing down and finally pulled over onto the shoulder of the roadway.” Deputy Townsend made contact with the driver identified as Diego Ceballos-Blanco, 24, of Ringgold. The deputy asked why he was traveling so fast, and initially, he advised that he was attempting to show off for a female on the phone. Deputy Townsend had Diego step out of the vehicle, where he was placed in handcuffs. Diego was transported to the Whitfield County Jail charged with speeding and reckless driving for driving with a reckless disregard for other’s safety of person and property.
