Acordiing to a Dalton Police Department incident report, on January 31st, 2021, at around 12:51 AM Officer Bethune was dispatched to the area of Riverbend Drive and Kate Street in reference to a disturbance at a private club. While investigating the incident Officer Bethune and sergeant Zimmerman observed a vehicle, later identified as a black 2018 Nissan Altima traveling westbound on Riverbend Drive approaching with no headlights turned on. The officer stopped the vehicle and approached the driver later identified as Dale Catlin, 19, of Dalton, and advised him why he was. being stopped. While speaking with Dale, the officer detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from inside the vehicle and also noticed an open container of alcohol ( Reds Apple ale) in the center console of the vehicle between Dale and his passenger, later identified as Logan Murphy, 19, of Ringgold. Officer Bethune reported, “[I] then asked dale if he was coming from the party at 1105 Riverbend Drive at which Dale stated That he was. [I] then asked dale how much he has had to drink at which dale stated that he just had 1 beer Dale also advised me that he was 19 years old.” Dale agreed to submit to a series of field sobriety tests to make sure that he was safe to drive. Dale showed several clues of impairment and was determined to be operating a motor vehicle while impaired. While searching Dale, inside his wallet, the officer located North Carolina driver’s license from Dale’s wallet. Dale advised that it was a fake ID and stated that it was how he made entry into the club at 1105 Riverbend Drive. Officer Hughes then located another fake North Carolina driver’s license on Logan’s person. Logan was then placed under arrest. Dale agreed to take the state administered chemical test of his breath. Both Dale and Logan were transported to the Whitfield County Jail. Dale’s breath registered 0.036 BrAC with the legal limt of 0.02 for his age. Dale was charged with open container, DUI under 21 0.02 or more, underage consumption, no headlights, and possession of a fraudulent ID. Logan was charged with possession of a fraudulent ID.
