Rocky Face man arrested for DUI after being found passed out drunk behind the wheel in Whitfield County

According to a Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office incident report, On July 23rd, 2022, at 7:37 PM, Deputy Greene responded to 613 LaFayette Road, West Side Mart, in reference to a male later identified as Otto Rene Valdez, 55, of Rocky Face, passed out in a white Chevy truck in the parking lot. Deputy Greene located the vehicle and could see a Valdez slouched over in the driver’s seat. According to the report, “Deputy Greene could immediately smell a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from inside the vehicle. Deputy Greene also observed an open 12 oz can of Modelo in the cup holder directly in front of Valdez’s right hand. Deputy Greene began speaking with Valdez. Deputy Greene immediately noticed Valdez’s eyes were extremely red and glassy, and he had slow, slurred speech. Valdez was not making any sense talking about he did not want to buy anything from the store, and at one point, he stated he was trying to go home. Deputy Greene asked where he was coming from, and Valdez said home. Deputy Greene asked Valdez what he had drunk today, and he replied, “maybe a beer”, then a few moments later, he stated, “I don’t know what I’m doing here”. During standardized field sobriety tests, Valdez showed several signs of impairment. Valdez was placed under arrest for DUI and agreed to the state test. Valdez was transported to the Whitfield County Jail, where he showed a BrAC of .170. He was charged with DUI and open container violation.
