Rocky Face man arrested for DUI after being stopped for impeding traffic in Dalton

According to a Dalton Police Department incident report, On September 22nd, 2022, at 1:08 AM, Lt. Bishop initiated a traffic stop on Tibbs Road, south of the intersection at North Tibbs Rod. Lt. Bishop stopped the black Toyota Avalon after observing the vehicle stopped in the roadway and then driving before driving stopping again. Lt. Bishop then made contact with the driver, later identified as Sunilkumar Babubhai Chaudhari, 28, of Rocky Face. Officer Gilreath arrived to assist Lt. Bishop, who advised Chaudhari later admitted to drinking alcoholic beverages before driving. Officer Gilreath reported, “Chaudhari’s eyes were red and glossy. While speaking to Chaudhari, [I] also noticed his speech seemed slurred. [I] asked Chaudhari if he consumed any alcoholic beverages, and he advised he ingested two corona beers.” During standardized field sobriety tests, Lt. Bishop conducted the horizontal gaze nystagmus test on Chaudhari. Chaudhari showed several signs of impairment. During the field alco-sensor test, Chaudhari placed his lips around the test tube but would not blow any air into the also-sensor. Officer Gilreath reported, “[I] explained to Chaudhari several times how to blow air out of his mouth. Chaudhari then closed his nose with his hand and pointed at his ear while trying to blow air out of his ear.” Chaudhari eventually provided a BAC of .127 on the PBT. Chaudhari was placed under arrest for DUI and refused the state test. Chaudhari advised he was not a U.S. Citizen and would not advise which country he has citizenship with. Chaudhari was transported to the Whitfield County Jail charged with DUI- alcohol less safe and impeding the free flow of traffic. According to the report, “Chaudhari later advised he was a citizen of India and advised he did not wish to notify the consulate in India of his arrest.
