Rocky Face woman tased after assaulting deputy during domestic violence call in Whitfield County

According to a Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office incident report, On July 22nd, 2022, at approximately 10:30 PM, Sergeant Southern was dispatched to an address on Fields Road in reference to a domestic dispute. According to the report, “The caller advised that the offender had beaten him and his wife up and that she had mental problems.” Upon arrival, Sgt. Southern located the victim, who pointed to a female later identified as Shelby Nicole Morgan, 24, of Rocky Face, and stated, “there she is”. When Sgt. Southern asked Shelby what her name was, and she stated, “baby”. Shelby would not speak with Sgt. Southern walked away several times while he attempted to find out what had happened. She was carrying a juvenile with her during the first several minutes of the encounter before she finally set him down when they went into the bedroom. According to the report, “Sgt. Southern attempted to buy time while a backup unit was en route due to Shelby’s size and the belief that she may fight. She is 6`2″ and weighs approximately 400lbs.” Shelby then attempted to leave and tried to push her way past Sgt. Southern, but he held her back, continuing to tell her to have a seat. At this time, Sgt. Southern attempted to have the small juvenile exit the room to remove him from the situation. According to the report, “Shelby stepped in the way and held her hand out to Sgt. Southern and said “hand it over” “it’s mine now, give it”. Sgt. Southern asked her what she was talking about, and she then struck him in the face with a closed fist. Sgt. Southern pushed Shelby back and deployed two taser cartridges. One in Shelby’s stomach area and one on her left leg. She was then placed in cuffs and into the rear of Sgt. Southern’s patrol vehicle just prior to Tunnel Hill Officer Bell arriving. The victim also advised that Shelby struck the windshield of his truck, causing it to shatter. She used large gardening clippers to do this and assaulted him. The deputy observed a cut lip and bruised forehead. Shelby was transported to the Whitfield County Jail, charged with criminal trespass, battery FV, Simple Battery FV, and simple battery against a police officer.
