Rome man arrested after shooting and killing dog in Floyd County

According to a Floyd County Police Department incident report, on December 10th, 2020, at around 9:11 PM, Officer Forrister responded to an address on Morrison Campground Road in reference to a male-killing a dog. The officer spoke with two neighbors who were also brother and sister. The man advised that his son Daniel Mcabee, 37 of Rome, who lives with him, had come over to his sister’s home and shot her dog with a .30-30 Caliber rifle. The officer observed the dog was in a kennel that is built into the porch of the home. The officer reported that the dog did, in fact, have a bullet wound that had traveled completely through the body of the dog. The father advised that Daniel had also shot his own dog. The victim advised that she had purchased the dog for $600 several years prior. The victim advised she wanted to press charges against Daniel. When Daniel was asked about shooting the dog, he advised he had shot the dog. Daniels’s mother advised the officer that she believed this incident was a result of Daniel having a schizophrenics episode. Daniel was transported to the Floyd County Jail, charged with cruelty to animals, criminal trespass, and discharging a firearm on another’s property.
