Rome man arrested after vehicle pursuit with Floyd County officer turns into foot chase

According to a Floyd County Police Department incident report, on May 23rd, 2021, at 2:26 AM, Officer McCormick observed a light color SUV run the stop sign at the intersection of Wilkerson and Williamson Road. Officer McCormick reported, “[I] activated my lights and siren to stop the vehicle. Upon doing so, the vehicle continued to drive away. The vehicle then made a left turn on to Beverly Road and [I] could hear a female scream stop then the vehicle proceeded to pick up speed and turn onto Marchmont Dr. The vehicle then turned onto Paris Dr before turning left onto Conn St. The vehicle then turned down various other streets before coming out on Burnett Ferry Rd and cut across the parking lot of A1 food and beverage. The vehicle then proceeded down Payne Rd until right before the intersection of Payne and Nanellen Rd. The driver, later identified as Shane Brent Wiley, 45, of Rome, then positioned the vehicle in the middle of the road and jumped out of the vehicle fleeing on foot. The officer got out and pursued Shane on foot. Sgt Wade arrived and took Shane into custody. The female passenger advised that she was unsure of why he was running but then stated that he did not have a valid driver’s license. Shane has transported to the Floyd County Jail, charged with driving while license suspended or revoked, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, obstructing intersection, stop sign violation x3, and obstruction of law enforcement. According to online arrest records, Shane has a history of obstructing police and driving while not permitted.
