Rome man arrested for DUI after being stopped for speeding in Floyd County

According to a Floyd County Police Department incident report, On October 29th, 2022, at 10:57 PM, Officer Penny observed a speeding vehicle make a left turn onto GA 293 from the area of Wilshire Road, quickly accelerating. Officer Penny advised Sgt. Josh Ward, who was in the area and he, got a speed reading on the vehicle of 72 MPH in a 45 MPH zone. Officer Penny conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the male driver, identified as Walter Ramirez-Cruz, 32, of Rome. Officer Penny reported, “It was during this interaction that [I] detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from within the vehicle. [I] ask the male if he had been drinking, and he admitted that he had.” During field sobriety testing, Walter showed several signs of impairment. Walter was placed under arrest for DUI and agreed to the state test. Walter was transported to the Floyd County Police Department, where he showed a BAC of .089. Walter was then transported to the Floyd County Jail and charged with DUI and speeding.
