Rome man arrested for DUI after causing three-vehicle crash while distracted in Floyd County

According to a Floyd County Police Department incident report, On August 12th, 2022, at approximately 3:53 PM, Officer Forrister, along with Officer Puckett, responded to a vehicle crash on Maple Road near Old Lindale Road. Officer Forrister arrived on the scene and found a three-vehicle crash with injuries. According to the report, “Officer Puckett did advise that the driver he had spoken with (Jason Wayne White, 44, of Rome) had droopy eyes, slurred speech, and had admitted to putting his phone away when he hit the other vehicles involved in the crash. White advised he had taken Buspirone and Gabapentin. He also advised he had some alcohol at 11:00 AM that morning.” During field sobriety testing, White showed several signs of impairment and showed a BAC of .137 on a PBT. White was placed under arrest for DUI and agreed to the state testing of his blood. Officer Forrister reported, “While getting medically cleared [I] did speak with White about the fact that his vehicle had returned with no insurance. He advised his vehicle should have insurance through progressive. [I] called progressive while getting White medically cleared and was able to figure out that at the time of the wreck, White did not have insurance on his vehicle with Progressive. The representative [I] spoke with advised that the insurance had gone into effect at 5:26 PM. The wreck had occurred at approximately 3:53. It is my belief that a family member of White’s that had been on scene had called and attempted to instate the policy after the wreck had occurred.” White was booked into the Floyd County Jail, charged with following too closely, DUI driving under the influence of multiple substances, no insurance, and distracted driving.
