Rome man arrested for DUI after failing to maintain lane on GA-1 Loop in Floyd County

According to a Georgia State Patrol incident report, On October 29th, 2022, at 10:11 PM, Corporal Haney from Cartersville post 3 observed a white GMC Sierra traveling south on GA-1 Loop south of GA-293 in the right lane fail to maintain its lane to the right twice. Trooper Haney conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, identified as Nicholas Scott Ballinger, 41, of Rome. Corporal Haney reported, “While talking to Mr. Ballinger, [I] noticed his eyes were bloodshot and could smell an odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath. [I] asked Mr. Ballinger how much he had to drink, and he stated,” [I] have had around six beers throughout the day”. During Standardized Field Sobriety, Ballinger showed several signs of impairment and a BAC of .105 on a PBT. Ballinger was then placed under arrest for DUI and agreed to the state blood test. Ballinger was transported to the Floyd County Jail and charged with DUI and failure to maintain a single lane.
