Rome man arrested for DUI after failing to maintain lane on Highway 27 in Floyd County

According to a Georgia State Patrol indent report, on November 7th, 2021, at approximately 1:20 AM, Trooper Whitfield of Post 5 in Dalton was traveling north on Georgia 1 in Floyd County. According to the report, Sergeant First Class Harris advised that he observed a 2019 Hyundai Sonata failing to maintain a lane and had conducted a traffic stop on Georgia 1 near Maple Drive. Trooper Whitfield reported, “[I] arrived on scene and took over the investigation. The driver was identified as Chiragkumar Girishbhan Patel, 40, of Rome. [I] asked Mr. Patel if he had anything to drink, and he stated two beers. He had bloodshot and watery eyes. His speech was slurred. While speaking to Mr. Patel, [I] could smell the strong odor of what [I] knew through my training and experience to be the odor of an alcoholic beverage. [I] also observed a 12 pack of beer in the rear seat.” According to the report, During Field Sobriety Tests, Patel showed several signs of impairment and showed a BAC of .182 on a Portable Breath Test. According to the report, Patel was placed under arrest for DUI and failing to maintain the lane. Patel was then transported to the Floyd County Jail.
