Rome man arrested for DUI after texting while driving and crashing into ditch in Gordon County

According to a Gordon County Sheriff’s Office incident report, On Thursday, October 27th, 2022, at 7:41 PM, Deputy Stevens was dispatched to Owens Gin Road at Pine Chapel Road in reference to a single-vehicle crash. Deputy Stevens arrived on the scene and spoke with the driver, identified as Christopher Lamar Robinson, 38, of Rome, who stated he was not injured and did not need any emergency care. According to the report, “Robinson’s Toyota Tacoma was lying in the ditch on the driver’s side on the right side of the roadway. Mr. Robinson stated he was using his phone and was texting while driving, which caused him to drive off the road. While speaking with Mr. Robinson, Deputy Stevens could smell the strong odor of alcoholic beverages emitting from his breath. Deputy Stevens observed Mr. Robinson to have watery eyes, common with subjects under the influence of alcohol. Deputy Stevens also observed an opened Michelob Ultra can lying on his floorboard. Mr. Robinson admitted to having some beers while he golfed at Fields Ferry Golf Course. Mr. Robinson had no idea about how many beers he drank and stated he lost count.” He stated he fell asleep in his truck, and when he woke up, he then proceeded to drive home. Deputy Stevens asked Robinson where he would place himself on a scale of 0-10. Zero being completely sober, and ten being the most impaired he’s ever been. Robinson stated he would be around two. During Standard Field Sobriety Tests, Robinson showed several signs of impairment and was placed under arrest for DUI, where he refused the state test. Robinson was transported to the Gordon County Jail, charged with DUI, alcohol less safe, and failure to maintain lane and open container.
