Rome man arrested on rape and child molestation charges

A Rome man was held without bond after he was arrested on felony child molestation charges. According to a Floyd County Police Department incident report, on May 3rd, 2021, Floyd County Police Investigator Amy Nails was directed by Floyd County Police CID Capt. Lom to meet with a representative from DFACS at Coosa High School in regards to possible sexual abuse. According to the report, The investigator met with the principal and the school counselor. The principal advised he received a handwritten letter from the 13-year-old victim stating the reason for her emotion was due to her “dad is jealous because he does things a dad shouldn’t do.” The letter went on to read that, “He is doing things that could make me pregnant, and my mom doesn’t know.” After receiving the letter, the principal followed the appropriate procedure to notify law enforcement of the reported sexual abuse. During a preliminary examination at Floyd Medical Center, the victim disclosed recent sexual abuse to her nursing staff. According to the report, the 13-year-old victim disclosed graphic details about the abuse to the Northwest Georgia Sexual Assault Center nurse. Mark Vince Sullins, 50, of Rome, was arrested at the Economy Inn on Martha Berry Boulevard charged with felony statutory rape, sexual battery, and child molestation.
