Rome man assaults woman with gun during violent domestic in Floyd County

According to Floyd County Police Department incident report, On August 21st, 2022, at 9:59 PM, Officer George was dispatched to 4469 Martha Berry Highway (Woodbridge Apartments) in reference to an open line that sounded to be a physical domestic altercation. Floyd County 911 dispatchers advised they could hear a female begging and saying quit hitting me and that she was screaming and crying on the line. Officer advised the call was now possible rape due to the dispatcher hearing a male say, “bring me your p***y”. Officer didn’t have the apartment number and went door to door, locking and attempting to locate the victim. Officer approached the apartment a could see the door was partially ajar and could hear a female screaming for help. Floyd County Police officer went inside and could hear the female victim screaming “help me”, and then [I] could see a black male later identified as Tommy Lee Lawrence Sr, 52 of Rome, exiting a back bedroom at the end of the hallway. Officers took him to gunpoint and ordered him to show his hands. Officer Pelanek, Officer Newport, and Officer Pelanek arrived on the scene and began assisting with taking Tommy into custody. Officer located a pipe, $1,060 dollars in U.S. currency, and a bag of meth on Tommy while searching him. Officers went to check on the female victim and observed she was crying and very upset. Her dress that she had on was ripped, and she had a large cut on her face by her eye. She grabbed hold of Officer Pelanek’s hand and almost fell to the ground in relief that she was now safe. The victim advised officers Tommy had pulled a gun out and began assaulting her before pointing it at her head. Officer located the loaded gun under the bed. Tommy was charged with aggravated assault, battery, possession of meth, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
