Rome man crashes while attempting to flee from Floyd County officer on Hwy 140

According to a Floyd County Police Department incident report, On October 13th, 2022, Officer Newport was patrolling the area of Ga 140 near Old Dalton Road when he observed a gray Honda Civic traveling Eastbound at a high rate of speed. Officer Newport reported, “[I] visually estimated the vehicle’s speed at approximately 85mph. [I] activated my patrol vehicle radar unit and confirmed the vehicle’s speed at 88mph in a 55mph zone. [I] activated my emergency equipment and turned around to attempt to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle. Once [I] turned around, [I] proceeded to attempt to catch up to the vehicle. As [I] approached Old Bells Ferry Rd, [I] observed the gray Honda Civic had left the right side of the roadway and had crashed at the intersection of Ga 140 and Old Bells Ferry Road.” Officer Newport then made contact with the driver Brice William Fowler, 21, of Rome, who stated that he was fine and refused EMS. The passenger, Alexander Jones, stated he was fine as well. When asked why he didn’t stop, Brice advised he did not want to get a speeding ticket. Officer Newport reported, “[I] asked Brice if he was attempting to flee, and he lowered his head and nodded yes. Brice was arrested and booked into the Floyd County Jail, charged with speeding and felony fleeing.
