Rome man facing several charges after crashing into tree Unity Church Road while DUI

According to a Georgia State Patrol crash report, on October 10th, 2020, at around 9:00 PM, a 1991 Nissan truck being driven by Joe Wade, 61 of Rome, was traveling south on Unity Church Road and negotiating a curve to the right. The truck crossed over the center line to the left. The truck then ran off the roadway to the left. The truck struck a standing tree with its front. The truck came to a final uncontrolled rest on the left shoulder facing west. The area of impact was determined by vehicle damage and the vehicle’s final resting position. The driver Wade showed obvious signs of impairment during field sobriety testing and showed a positive reading BAC reading well above the legal limit on an Alco-Sensor. Wade was determined to be driving under the influence of alcohol by the investigating Trooper Mosley. An open container of alcohol was also found in his crashed truck. Wade was transported to Floyd County Medical Center. Warrants for open container, failure to maintain lane, no seatbelt, and DUI-driving under the influence of alcohol were issued.
