Rome man violently assaults 65-year-old man and elderly grandmother in Floyd County

According to a Floyd County Police Department incident report, June 15th, 2022, at 1:27 AM, Officer Wright spoke with a 65-year-old man who stated that Dakota Joseph Godfrey, 26, of Rome, violently punched and kicked him several times yesterday morning. The victim informed me he was arrested a few days ago with Hank Johnson for possession of methamphetamine by the Metro Drug Task Force. The victim advised the officer he was released, but Hank was still incarcerated. According to the report, Dakota was informed that the victim mentioned his name to the task force by Hank. When Dakota was informed, he came to the victim’s residence and beat him half to death. The victim advised the officer he was in fear for his life. According to the report, “Dakota was also currently incarcerated on a battery charge.” According to Floyd County Jail reports, he beat up his 78-year-old grandmother. According to the report, Dakota violently shoved the victim to the ground and then pulled her back up by her shirt. The victim was left with visible injuries to her arm. Dakota then proceeded to break the victim’s window to her home with his head and face. The 73-year-old victim was heard screaming for help and begging Dakota to stop beating her. Dakota is charged with battery x2, exploitation of an elderly or disabled person, and 2nd degree criminal damage to property.
