Rome woman arrested for DUI after being stopped by Floyd County officer for improper turn

According to a Floyd County Police Department incident report, On June 3rd, 2022, Officer Bleecker and Officer Stanfield were performing mobile patrol in the area of Tribune Drive and 5th Avenue in Rome when they observed a vehicle make a left turn from the far right lane (the lane is marked for traffic to continue straight, or make a right turn). Officer Bleecker initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and made contact with the driver, identified as Ladella Lynn Childers, 58, of Rome. Officer Stanfield reported, “While traveling behind the vehicle, [I] did not notice anything that would alarm me to a possible impaired driver. However, the vehicle did attempt to stop on the side of the road in a turn lane but kept going due to a signboard being there. The driver then continued to drive for some distance before stopping across from Ridge Ferry Park.” While speaking with Childers, the officer did smell a faint odor of an alcoholic beverage. The officer asked Childers who had been drinking due to the odor of an alcoholic beverage. Childers stated that she only had a drink at dinner and that she was coming from a Jimmy Buffet concert. During field sobriety tests, Childers showed several signs of alcohol impairment. Childers was then placed under arrest for DUI and agreed to the state test of her breath. Childers was transported to the Floyd County Jail after showing a BAC of .088 on the state test. She was booked into jail and charged with DUI and improper turn.
