Rome woman arrested for DUI after crashing into power pole in Floyd County

According to a Floyd County Police Department incident report, on May 9th, 2021, 1:A7 AM, Officer Overstreet checked out with a crash that Rome City Police was dispatched to in the area of Chatillon Road near Poplar Street. FCPD Officer advised the City Officers that the crash was in the county. Rome Police Officer Jennings stated that the driver told him that she had a few too many tonight when asked if she had been drinking. The vehicle was eastbound on the left side of the road crashed into a Georgia Power pole. Officer Overstreet, “[I] checked the vehicle and noticed three empty alcoholic beverage containers in the passenger-side floorboard. The officer spoke to the driver later identified Rita Faye Carter, 59, of Rome, who was now refusing EMS transport for treatment. Officer Overstreet reported, “[I] asked her if she had been drinking tonight. The driver stated that she had a little too much to drink tonight. [I] could smell the odor of alcohol on the driver’s breath and noticed her eyes were glossy bloodshot.” Rome Police Officer Carswell conducted a search of the arrestee female. Carter agreed to implied consent for blood and was transported to the Floyd County Jail charged with open container violation, failure to maintain lane, and DUI-driving under the influence of alcohol.
