According to a Georgia State Patrol incident report, On September 3rd, 2022, at 3:10 AM, Trooper Sarrell of post 41 LaFayette was participating, in a supervisor approved DUI road check at the intersection of North 2nd Avenue and West 3rd Street in the city of Rome, Georgia. A green Toyota Camry being driven by Brianna Hitzel Guzman Jimenez, 22, of Rome, approached checkpoint. Trooper Sarrell reported, “[I] requested the driver’s license and smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from within the vehicle. [I] observed the driver’s eyes to be bloodshot and watery. [I] asked Ms. Guzman Jiminez if she had been drinking, and she stated that she had consumed “a drink and a shot.” When [I] asked Ms. Guzman Jiminez to clarify, she stated that she had consumed one gin and sprite mixed drink, and one green tea shot.”During field sobriety testing, Guzman Jiminez showed several signs of impairment. Trooper Sarrell reported, “Upon attempting to administer a Preliminary Breath Test with my department issued Alcosensor, [I] continued to receive an “insufficient flow” notification due to Ms. Guzman Jiminez failing to provide an adequate breath sample. Based on my training and experience, this is common when someone is attempting to deceive the PBT. On one of multiple attempts to obtain a breath sample from Ms. Guzman Jiminez, [I] managed to conduct a quick capture which confirmed the positive presence of ethyl alcohol on her breath BAC of .076.” Guzman Jiminez was then placed under arrest for DUI and agreed to the state test. Guzman Jiminez was transported to the Floyd County Jail charged with DUI.
