Rome woman killed in crash on Highway 156 Monday morning in Floyd County

According to the Georgia State Patrol: “On Jan. 4, at approximately 8 a.m., a 2020 Toyota Corolla driven by Shelby Dowdy of Rome was traveling south on Floyd Springs Road. A tractor-trailer, driven by Kenneth Craig, 51 of LaFayette, was traveling east on Ga. 156. According to the witness and also the truck driver, Dowdy’s Toyota failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of Floyd Springs Road and Ga. 156. Her car entered the intersection and was struck on the right side by the front end of vehicle the truck. After impact, the Toyota rotated clockwise and left the roadway on the southeast side of Ga. 156 and came to a final uncontrolled rest. The truck left the roadway on the southeast side of Ga. 156 traveling east. It continued east until turning back toward the paved surface and striking a large ditch. The tractor of re-entered Ga. 156 but the trailer entered the ditch causing the vehicle to roll onto its passenger’s side before coming to a uncontrolled final rest. Dowdy, age 23, was fatally injured. Craig was injured and transported to Floyd Medical Center.
